"People with the right mindset make a strategy a success"
Last week we came up with LUNAR Institute together at the LUNAR Free Minds Dinner. An evening for free minds who want to build answers to today's challenges together.
Inspired by the Lunar Society from 1765, LUNAR Institute picked up this tradition 8 years ago by regularly bringing together a select group of thinkers and doers: administrators, leaders, scientists, philosophers and changemakers. People who meet outside their own context, are curious about each other's insights, and are driven to enable meaningful change from an open mind. We often invite business leaders and changemakers as guest speakers, as well as the recently deceased Dr. Jane Goodall was our beloved guest a few years ago.
This time was Nicole Freid our special guest. As CEO of HAK, she is at the helm of an impressive transformation: from a traditional canned vegetable company to a European forerunner in sustainable "green convenience.
Over dinner we talked about the tension between making positive impact (long-term) and economic realism, about the courage to stay the course in a troubled world, about the responsibility and care for an iconic brand that is part of our Dutch heritage. But above all: about the importance of people in change. Nicole showed how essential it is as a leader not only to set a course, but also to set that course together with your people. With attention, commitment and trust.
"You can have such a good strategy, but if people don't support it, it's worth nothing. Good people with the right mindset make the difference." said Nicole Freid.
The Free Minds Dinners are moments of reflection, deepening and dialogue. Where there is room for the real conversation, beyond the issues of the day. Where leaders sharpen each other's vision, based on curiosity, trust and imagination.
