LUNAR Free Minds Dinner
LUNAR Society - 250 years ago, the Lunar Society organized monthly inspirational dinners during the full moon in Birmingham, Great Britain. Free spirits from the worlds of art, science and business came together. Think Darwin, Wedgwood or James Watt. Their new thoughts and solutions to social challenges soon formed the basis for the industrial revolution.
LUNAR Institute is picking up this tradition again. Because even now it is important that thinkers and doers, from all disciplines and schools of thought, come up with solutions to the most pressing challenges. Our Free Minds Dinners are inspiring dinners where free minds from the worlds of business, art and culture come together.
With open minds, we develop answers for the challenges of the time. And that is what is needed again: answers, innovation and open minds.
During dinner there will be ample space to engage with the chief guest on leadership, social impact, the changing world and sustainability. From peace and space to engage deeper with each other and ask the real questions.

Marit van Egmond
We are very pleased to announce that Marit van Egmond
will be our special guest this evening. Marit spent more than 25 years at Ahold Delhaize, where she held a variety of leadership roles. From 2019 to mid-2025, she served as CEO of Albert Heijn, Etos and Gall&Gall. In a period marked by far-reaching social and economic changes including covid, inflation and increasing polarization, she strongly reinforced market leadership in the Netherlands and Belgium.
By putting the customer at the center of everything, the company grew significantly in revenue and market share each year. This growth went hand in hand with a decidedly mission-driven course. In doing so, she made great strides in the areas of health and sustainability, which was awarded B Corp certification in 2024. She wrote a book ‘Together for Better Food’ with her vision of the future of the food system.
Key ingredients in her leadership include a clear strategic direction, organizing teams based on talent and qualities rather than hierarchy, and making integral and great use of the possibilities of technology. At the same time, she is known for her people-oriented approach. Closeness and approachability are essential to her and prerequisites for sustainable success. Especially in such a large company, that is special to experience.
According to Marit, good leadership starts with deep connection, both with the environment and with yourself. This is no easy task in a world that is becoming more complex, demanding and in which leadership is also permanently under a magnifying glass and public 24/7. How do you deal with this? How do you really hear what is going on in society? How do you stay true to yourself? What choices does that require? And what dilemmas are involved? Marit is happy to discuss these themes with you.
